Dealing with Violations

While using electronic resources, some readers might violate downloading agreements and get punished by publishers with the loss of access to some resources for a certain IP segment or even the IP of entire Shandong University, impeding others’ normal use and damaging reputation of the university.

In order to notify and stop such behaviors, the off-campus access system monitors users' access to databases and their downloads. If anyone has excessive downloads in a short period of time, his or her account will be automatically frozen. Please observe relevant rules and regulations on intellectual property rights of electronic resources and do not download electronic literature in a consecutive, intensive and excessive manner (Generally, database providers view downloading literature at a faster speed than normal reading as a kind of abuse, for it takes several minutes to finish reading a document normally.).

Do NOT share one's login account or password with off-campus person. Otherwise, violators shall be liable for all the consequences.

One account is permitted to log in at only one computer at the same time. Disclosure of account information may cause login failure.

Unfreeze Account

The reader with a frozen account should hand in a written application with his affiliation, name, University ID Card account, and situation description on “excessive downloading in a short time”, including time, database, etc. and make statements for the violations to the library. On a case-by-case basis, the library will make punishment such as freezing the account for 1-3 months, notifying the school and department which the violator belongs to, and making online announcement.
