11.How to reserve a book?
  • You can only reserve a book when all its duplications have been checked out.
  • You can log in "My Library" on the library's homepage and click on "Bibliographic Search" to search the book you need. If all duplications of the book you need are on loan, you can choose the "Reservation Request" option, select "Pick-up Location", click on the button under the "Reservation" column, and finally click on the "Execute Request" button on the bottom right. If your request meets the reservation conditions, the system will give a prompt for successful reservation, indicating the completion of the operation.
  • To cancel a book reservation request: Log in “My Library”—click “Reservation Information” to see your reservation list—click on “Cancel” button to cancel the request.
12.How to use the Seat Reservation System in Qingdao Campus Library?

The Seat Reservation System in Qingdao Campus Library is available since November 2, 2017.

Click http://seat.lib.sdu.edu.cn/home/web/index/area/19 to use it, or open the “Seminar Room Reservation” page on the library homepage and click the “Seat” link on the left.

Please read the reservation rules first to avoid any inconvenience caused by violations.

13.How is the overdue fine charged?

Readers who fail to return books by the due date will be charged 0.1 yuan per day. (If the books can be returned within three days after the due date, there will be no overdue fees charged.)

14.How to compensate for lost books?

For lost books, you shall replace with a book of the same edition. But for loss of library's important collections, you shall compensate at the rate of 2-50 times of the book price (full price of multiple volumes if any fascicule book is lost) depending on the publication year and scarcity of the lost item.

1. For lost books, you shall replace with a book of the same edition and pay the processing fee and cataloguing fee, normally¥2.00.

2. If you cannot replace with a book of the same edition, the compensation will vary from 2 to 50 times of the book price(full price of multiple volumes if any fascicule book is lost and annual subscription price as well as binding fee for bound-volume periodicals) according to the year of publication and scarcity.

3. You shall pay the overdue fines if the lost items are overdue.

4. If the lost item is later found and returned(within 1 month after the date of compensation) the compensation will be refunded against the compensation receipt. But you shall pay the overdue fines.

15.Where is the location “Political and Law Library”?

It is in Hongjialou Campus Library.

16.Where can I access a book stored in the “School of Foreign Languages and Literature”?

It is in the Reference Room of the School of Foreign Languages and Literature on Hongjialou Campus.

17.What are the seat reservation rules when using the Library Seat Management System?

Here are seat reservation rules:

1. You can reserve seats for the very day or the next day. The user name of the reservation system is the university ID card number, and the password is the query password of university ID card.

2. If you reserve a seat for the very day, then you cannot cancel it and are supposed to enter the library with the university ID card within 30 minutes after the reservation period starts.

3. If you reserve a seat for the next day, you should swipe your university ID card and enter the library before 8:30 the next morning.

4. If you do not sign in after reserving a seat, you will be recorded violation once. With 3 records, you are not permitted to reserve a seat within 7 days.

5. To cancel the next day's reservation, you should complete the operation no later than 7:30 the next morning. To do this, click on “My Account” - “My Reservation”- “Cancel the Reservation”.

6. To leave the seat, you should choose “Leave” and swipe the card on any booking kiosk in the hall. The readers of Qingdao Campus Library have another option: to sign off by swiping the card on the machine beside the anti-theft device near the library hall exit.

7. Step out (return within 60 minutes): When leaving the library temporarily, you should choose "Step Out" on the booking kiosk and swipe your card. Seats are reserved for 60 minutes. Readers who have chosen "Step Out" can continue to use their seat when going back to the seat. There are two ways of signing in: 1. swipe the university ID card on the aisle machine while entering the hall; 2. swipe the university ID card on the booking kiosk; if one fails to return to sign in within 60 minutes, the system will automatically vacate the seat for others.

8. If you select a seat but do not choose “Leave” or “Step Out” before leaving, or do not return and sign in within 60 minutes after choosing “Step Out”, the system will record “Violation” once. After violating for three times, you are not permitted to select or reserve seats within 7 days.

9. One hour before closing time in the evening, the booking kiosk stops its function of seat selecting. You can continue to use your seats until closing time even if you have swiped the card and chosen “Leave” on the machine. It is recommended that you vacate seats in advance to avoid the peak of departure.

10. You have an obligation to maintain the order in the reading room and are not permitted to occupy seats with articles or relocate chairs without permission. Staff members may clean up the articles you use to occupy a seat and do not have to assume responsibility for any loss caused.

18.What are the reservation rules when reserving a library seminar room?

Here are seminar room reservation rules:

1. The user name for logging in the system is the university ID card number and the password is the query password of the card.

2. When submitting a reservation request, you may add members with their student number or salary number.

3. The seminar room is available for reservation from 8:00 to 22:00. With one reservation, you can use the reserved seminar room for 30 minutes to 4 hours.

4. Reservations can be made 7 days in advance, and within 7 days each person can reserve a room once a day.

5. After making a reservation, you can swipe card to open the door within 15 minutes before or after the start time. The reservation cannot be cancelled 15 minutes or less before the start time. Cancellation: Click on “My Account”-“My Reservation”-“Cancel the Reservation”.

6. After making a reservation, the members who sign in should be no less than the minimum number of members submitted in the request (within 15 minutes before and after the start time). Otherwise, the system will record default of the applicant once and vacate the reserved room. After violating for three times, the applicant is not permitted to make a seminar room reservation within 15 days.

7. After entering the room with card, you should first check whether the equipment is in good condition. If something goes wrong, please contact the staff in time (contact information is displayed on the reservation page "Room Information" or on the card reader near the door). Otherwise, you shall take the responsibility for any equipment failure.

8. When leaving the seminar room, you should restore all the indoor articles and equipment, take away personal belongings and wastes, turn off the power supply, and close the windows and door.

19.The book I want to check out is “Available” online, but why can’t I find it in the stack?

Possible reasons for the “Available” books not on the bookshelves:

  • The library is in the open mode of “Great Circulation”, so readers can take and read the book anywhere in the library.
  • Wrong shelving . (The librarians or readers misplace the book.)
  • The book may be stolen or lost.
  • The book may be overdue and on the way of returning to the library.
  • The book is being repaired or is waiting for weeding.
20.How to request a book?

Requesting a book means you can apply to check out a book from the libraries of other campuses online through the OPAC system .

The procedures of requesting a book are as follows:

Step 1 :Login to “My Library” of the OPAC system; search for the book and submit your request application.

Step 2 :See “My Library”-“Request Information” or set an E-mail address to receive request information.

Step 3 :Go to the library of your campus to check out the book with your own  University ID Card.

Step 4 :You may return the book to the library of any campus.
