21.What should I pay attention to when I request a book?
  • When you request a book, it should be unavailable or marked as borrowed in the library of your campus,and is “Available”, “In Library” in the libraries of other campuses.
  • You can request at most 2 books every time.
  • The validity period of request application is 2 days. If the book you request cannot be found for various reasons (for example, the book is on the way of transportation, is taken and read by readers in the library, etc.) within the validity period, the application will be invalid. Besides, you can cancel the request before it officially takes effect.
  • The book you request can be kept in the library for 7 days. You should check out the book in the library of your campus with your own university ID card within 7 days. Your overdue handling shall be deemed to give up checking out the book.
  • If the number of books you have checked out exceeds the maximum volumes allowed, or if you have been recorded with any violations like overdue returning of books, you shall be unable to submit the request application.
  • If you have made requests without coming to pick it up twice, your right of “requesting a book” will be cancelled for 180 days, and this misbehavior will be recorded on your credit file.
22.Notices for making acquisition suggestions.

With the aim to better serve the discipline construction of the university, to make good use of the book funds, and to improve the collection level and the quality of academic books and periodicals so that the construction of literature resources can better meet the needs of teaching and scientific research of our university, and in order to encourage more teachers and students to participate in the construction of literature resources, the library has opened various channels to receive book acquisition suggestions. Through the channels, teachers and students can get information about relative literature and books, and make acquisition suggestions of Chinese and foreign language books suitable for teaching and scientific research of the university to the Acquisition Department of the Literature Resources Construction Center of the library.

Notices:

1. Before making acquisition suggestions, please check the books collection. In general, if the library has held the recommended general book no less than 3 copies and the large book no less than 1 copy, there is no need for repeated purchase of these items.

2. The recommended Chinese and foreign language books, periodicals and e-resources should be in line with the needs of the disciplines and professional setting, and of the teaching and scientific research.

3. The books and periodicals recommended to buy should conform to the collection scales and have not been collected by the library, or the collection of the item has not reached the specified copies.

4. The information of recommended books and periodicals (including name, author, ISBN, press, publication year, price etc.) should be accurate and detailed as much as possible.

5. The library will comprehensively consider many factors such as principles of selection, annual book acquisition plans, funds of literature purchase, and current literature collection of various disciplines and majors of the university to make acquisition plans.

6. Once the acquisition suggestions are adopted, the library will contact the suppliers as soon as possible. Since it certainly takes some time to place an order, catalog and shelf the book, please forgive us for any inconvenience caused.

23.Why cannot find the book I requested?

Generally speaking, if the book cannot be found for two consecutive days after you make a request, your request will become null and void automatically. There are several reasons for this case:

  • The library is in the openmode of “Great Circulation”, which means readers can take and read books anywhere in the library. Some readers may personally keep the book they need.
  • Wrong shelving( The librarians misplace the book.)
  • The book is stolen or lost.
  • The book fails to be returned on time to the library.
  • The book is being repaired or is waiting for weeding.
  • The book is mistakenly allocated in wrong location.
  • Other reasons.
24.What is “Chinese Library Classification”? (CLC for short)

“Chinese Library Classification” is developed based on the characteristics of books and the scientific classification. It contains 5 basic classes and 22 subclasses. The basic classes include Marxism, Leninism, and Mao Zedong Thought, philosophy, social science, natural science and comprehensive books. “Chinese Library Classification” uses 26 alphabets to represent all classifications.

25.How many subclasses are included in the “Chinese Library Classification”?

26.What is the call number?

The call number, with specific structure and meaning, refers to the number given by the library to books, which is usually printed on the label of book spine. In the library collection system, the call number of each book is unique, which can accurately position the needed book on the bookshelf, so it is the necessary code information for readers to find needed books. Readers can get bibliography information from the Bibliography Retrieving System, and find the book according to its call number.

27.How to use library catalogue search?

Library catalogue serves as a significant tool for providing information of books, which can help readers in many aspects:

  • Readers can get general information of books and browse the condition of the major-related collections;
  • Readers can get information about the literatures related or similar to their majors so as to broaden their horizons in literature.
  • Readers can know the distribution of required literatures for the future use.
  • Readers can know the exact location of books to be borrowed to quickly locate the book.

“Bibliographic Retrieval” comprises general (system default) and advanced search. By entering search terms in the upper search box on the general search interface, 6 optional search filters are given in the following “Limit Your Search” box:

  • “Literature Type”: searching by types of books and periodicals. The default retrieval range is “All Items”. Readers can choose one certain type;
  • “Search Type”: in the drop-down list, there are 9 options according to the contents and characteristics of books and periodicals, including title (refers to the book or periodical title in general), author, subject terms, call number (number on the label of the book spine), press, international publication number (ISBN, ISSN), subscription number, class number, series title and the default title (it is noted that the bar code number and property number cannot be used for searching)
  • “Search Mode” is the matching degree between the search term and the returns. The default option is “Start With”.
  • “Search Returns Per Page”: there are 4 options of 20, 30, 50, and 100, and the default one is 20;
  • “Sort By”: in the drop-down list, several options are given, such as collection date, title, author, call number, press, and publication date and two sorting patterns are given: ascending and descending. Collection date and descending order are the default options.
  • “Results Display Mode”: there are two display modes: detailed display and tabular display. The default is detailed display.
28.What can I know from the homepage of the library?

On the homepage, such information is available as all kinds of paper collections and electronic resources, rules and regulations, services, lecture notices, and the guidance of using the library’s resources. The information above is one of the important approaches for readers to know our library.

29.Is the self-service copying available in the library? Where can I download the self-service printing driver?

Multi-functional printers in the library enable you to realize self-service printing, copying, and scanning by swiping your university ID card on the card reader of any printers on campus. After tasks are completed, you are supposed to swipe university ID cards again to pay. The locations of multi-functional printers on campuses currently are as follows: beside the Self-Service machines on the second floor of Central Campus Library; New Book Reading Room (D418) of Chiang Chen Library in Central Campus; Newspaper & Periodicals Reading Room (106), the first floor of Xinglongshan Campus Library; the hall on the first floor of Baotuquan Campus Library; Electronic Reading Room, the third floor of Qianfoshan Campus Library.

30.Can I borrow books from Chiang Chen Library?

Chiang Chen Library has provided book borrowing and returning services since May 8th, 2018. Its rules are in line with those of libraries on other campuses.

Borrowing and returning range: Social Science Stack (Room 416), Natural Science Stack (Room 603), and Comprehensive Stack (Room 604).
